What it means
A fault has been detected in shift solenoid B operation or its circuit. The code does not identify the cause or which gears the solenoid controls.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Shift solenoid B is an electrically operated valve in the transmission’s hydraulic control system. The control module detects that solenoid B operation or its circuit is not behaving as expected, but P0755 alone does not specify which gears solenoid B controls or whether the fault is electrical or mechanical.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Solenoid stuck
- Open or shorted winding
Symptoms
- Check engine or transmission warning light on
- Harsh, delayed, or missing shifts
- Possible limp mode (locked in one gear)
- Slipping or shuddering during gear changes
How to diagnose it
- Read transmission codes and freeze-frame data, then note the gear, vehicle speed, and temperature when the solenoid B fault occurred.
- Check fluid level and condition using the vehicle’s specified procedure, since contaminated fluid can contribute to a sticking solenoid.
- Inspect the solenoid B wiring and connector for damaged insulation, corrosion, loose pins, or fluid intrusion.
- Use a scan tool to compare the solenoid B command with available response or transmission data during the conditions that set the code.
- Test solenoid B and its control circuit using the manufacturer’s procedure to distinguish a sticking valve, failed coil, wiring fault, or driver problem.
Common fixes
- Correct low fluid level or repair a fluid leak.
- Clean or repair poor connector contacts and damaged wiring to solenoid B.
- Service contaminated transmission fluid if its condition and the manufacturer’s guidance support it.
- Replace solenoid B if testing confirms it is stuck or electrically faulty.
- Repair the valve body or control module driver if testing isolates the fault there.
Can I keep driving?
If shifts remain smooth and the transmission holds each gear, limit driving and arrange diagnosis soon. Avoid towing, steep climbs, and hard acceleration; stop driving if it slips, bangs into gear, or loses drive.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
