OBD-II fault code

P069F: Throttle Actuator Control Lamp Control Circuit

What it means

The control module monitors the electrical circuit that operates the throttle actuator control warning lamp. It sets this code when the lamp control circuit has an electrical fault, such as an open or short; the code alone does not establish a throttle actuator fault.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light

How it works

The throttle actuator control lamp circuit operates the warning lamp that alerts the driver to a throttle control issue. P069F sets when the module detects an electrical fault in that lamp circuit; it does not by itself prove that the throttle actuator has failed.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Open or short in lamp wiring
  2. Faulty warning lamp or instrument cluster
  3. Poor connector contact
  4. Control module output fault

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on
  • Reduced throttle response, possible limp mode
  • Hesitation or surging
  • Idle too high or too low

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and scan for throttle actuator and instrument cluster codes to separate a lamp circuit fault from a throttle control problem.
  2. Check whether the throttle warning lamp illuminates during the normal key-on lamp check and note any reduced throttle response.
  3. Inspect the lamp circuit wiring and connectors between the control module and instrument cluster for damage, looseness, or corrosion.
  4. Use scan-tool output controls or live data, if supported, to command or observe the lamp circuit and check whether the cluster responds.
  5. Test for an open, short, or poor connection in the lamp circuit and verify the module output against the manufacturer's specification.

Common fixes

  • Repair an open or short in the throttle warning lamp wiring.
  • Clean or repair poor connector contacts at the instrument cluster or control module.
  • Replace a failed warning lamp or repair the instrument cluster if testing identifies it as the fault.
  • Repair the control module output only if wiring and cluster tests show the output itself is faulty.

Can I keep driving?

If throttle response is normal, the fault may only prevent the warning lamp from working, but it could hide a later throttle warning. If power or throttle control is erratic, avoid driving and arrange a safe inspection.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
