What it means
The control module detected a performance problem in its analog-to-digital (A/D) processing. The code alone does not identify the cause.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
How it works
The control module's analog-to-digital (A/D) converter turns incoming sensor voltages into digital values the processor can use. P060B sets when the module detects that this A/D processing is not performing correctly, potentially because of a converter fault, unstable power or ground, connector trouble, or a module software or hardware problem.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Internal control-module A/D converter fault
- Low or unstable module power or ground
- Corroded or loose module connectors
- Control-module hardware or software fault
Symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Possible limp mode or no-start
- Multiple follow-up faults across modules
- Reset/relearn may be needed after repair
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and scan all modules for sensor and voltage-related faults that may point to shared power or ground trouble.
- Check battery and charging-system condition, then inspect the module's power and ground connections for looseness or corrosion.
- Inspect module connectors and the harness for moisture, damaged wiring, bent pins, or poor terminal contact.
- Compare relevant sensor readings on the scan tool with their expected behavior and look for implausible or erratic values that could reflect A/D processing trouble.
- Check for applicable module software updates, then test module circuits to the manufacturer's specification before concluding the internal A/D converter has failed.
Common fixes
- Repair poor module power, ground, or connector connections.
- Correct unstable battery or charging-system voltage.
- Repair damaged wiring or connector terminals affecting module inputs.
- Reprogram the module if an applicable update is specified.
- Replace and configure the module if an internal A/D processing fault is confirmed.
Can I keep driving?
If the engine runs normally, restrict driving to short, cautious trips because faulty sensor conversion can cause unpredictable engine control or limp mode. Stop if the engine runs erratically, stalls, or loses power.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
