What it means
Same as P059E on shutter B. Wiring faults of this kind typically come from chafing, water ingress at connector seals, or pin push-back — a wiggle test on the harness while the code is active often confirms the location.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
How it works
Active grille shutter B's position sensor reports movement to the control module as the shutter adjusts cooling airflow. P05AD sets when the sensor circuit signal becomes unreliable intermittently, often because a connector or harness connection loses contact with vibration or movement.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Intermittent contact at connector
- Connector with intermittent contact under vibration
- Harness routed against vibrating component
Symptoms
- Check-engine light
- Shutter B may move intermittently or stop responding
- Cooling fan may run more often
How to diagnose it
- Check freeze-frame data and scan for related codes, then watch shutter B's live position reading for dropouts or sudden changes.
- Inspect the sensor connector and harness for loose or corroded terminals, chafing, damaged insulation, or routing against a vibrating part.
- With live data displayed, gently move shutter B's harness and connector to see whether the reading drops out or the fault returns.
- Check terminal fit and continuity through the sensor circuit while moving the harness, following the manufacturer's wiring information.
- If the wiring remains stable, test shutter B's position sensor for intermittent failure during operation.
Common fixes
- Secure a loose shutter B sensor connector and correct its harness routing.
- Clean corroded terminals or replace a connector with unreliable pin contact.
- Repair chafed wiring and secure it away from vibration or rubbing.
- Replace shutter B's position sensor if the circuit remains intermittent with sound wiring.
Can I keep driving?
A short, cautious drive is generally possible if engine temperature stays normal, but shutter B may stop responding without warning. Monitor the temperature gauge and stop if the engine overheats.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
