What it means
Same as P059C on shutter B. Wiring faults of this kind typically come from chafing, water ingress at connector seals, or pin push-back — a wiggle test on the harness while the code is active often confirms the location.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
How it works
The position sensor on active grille shutter B reports its movement to the control module, which uses the shutters to manage cooling airflow and aerodynamics. P05AB sets when the sensor signal circuit is higher than its plausible range, often because the signal is shorted to a supply source or a connection is faulty.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Signal shorted to supply
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
- Supply wire pinched against B+ source
Symptoms
- Check-engine light
- Shutter B may not move as commanded
- Cooling fan may run more often
How to diagnose it
- Check freeze-frame and live position data to confirm that shutter B's signal is high and see whether it changes when the shutter is commanded to move.
- Inspect shutter B's sensor connector and harness for chafing, a pinched wire, water ingress, corrosion, or terminals pushed back.
- With the fault active, monitor the signal while gently moving the harness to look for a changing reading.
- Test the signal circuit for a short to supply and compare the readings with the manufacturer's wiring information.
- If the wiring is intact, test shutter B's position sensor for an internal fault.
Common fixes
- Repair a signal wire pinched against a supply source.
- Clean and secure corroded or loose shutter B sensor terminals.
- Repair chafed wiring or a backed-out connector pin.
- Replace shutter B's position sensor if the circuit tests sound and the sensor signal remains high.
Can I keep driving?
You can usually drive cautiously if the engine stays at normal temperature, but shutter B may not respond correctly and the cooling fan may run more often. Watch the temperature gauge and stop if the engine overheats.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
