OBD-II fault code

P03F6: B Camshaft Position Actuator Position Sensor C Circuit (Bank 1)

What it means

B Camshaft Position Actuator Position Sensor C Circuit (Bank 1): an electrical fault is present in the circuit. This relates to engine timing; a fault can cause rough running, a no-start, or timing errors.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test

How it works

The Bank 1 B camshaft position actuator position sensor C reports the position of the profile actuator to the engine control module. The module monitors its electrical signal; this code sets when the sensor circuit has an electrical fault, so the reported actuator position may be unreliable.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Camshaft position actuator position sensor C fault
  2. Open, shorted, or damaged wiring or connector
  3. Camshaft actuator or timing mechanism fault
  4. Engine control module circuit fault

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on
  • Power loss especially in mid-rpm range
  • Possible rough idle or stalling
  • Increased fuel consumption

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and review live data for the Bank 1 actuator position sensor C signal and related cam timing.
  2. Inspect the sensor C connector and Bank 1 wiring for loose pins, corrosion, broken conductors, or damaged insulation.
  3. Check the sensor mounting and nearby actuator or timing components for looseness or visible damage.
  4. Use the wiring diagram and manufacturer’s procedure to test the sensor circuit, including its supply, ground, signal, and continuity as applicable.
  5. If the circuit passes, test the sensor and actuator mechanism separately before considering a module fault.

Common fixes

  • Repair damaged or loose wiring at the Bank 1 sensor C circuit.
  • Clean or repair corroded connector terminals and restore a secure connection.
  • Replace the actuator position sensor C if testing confirms it is faulty.
  • Repair the actuator or module circuit only if separate tests identify that fault.

Can I keep driving?

A short, gentle trip may be possible if the engine runs smoothly, but reduced power, rough idle, or stalling can occur because the module may not know the actuator position. Stop if it stalls or runs very roughly.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
