What it means
Cylinder 7 measured peak combustion pressure is below the calibrated minimum — typically low compression, weak injection, or stuck-open exhaust valve.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
How it works
The control system uses the cylinder 7 pressure trace to assess combustion in that cylinder. This code sets when its measured peak pressure falls below the calibrated minimum, which may reflect poor compression, insufficient fueling, or a valve that does not seal.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Low compression in cylinder 7
- Fuel injector delivering too little fuel
- Leaking or stuck-open valve
- Worn or damaged piston rings
Symptoms
- Check-engine light
- Rough running or misfire
- Reduced engine power
- Increased fuel consumption
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and compare cylinder 7 pressure and misfire data with the other cylinders under similar conditions.
- Inspect cylinder 7's injector wiring and connections, and check for leaks or damage around the injector.
- Review available injector operation or contribution data to see whether cylinder 7 appears under-fueled.
- Test cylinder 7 compression and, if low, perform a leak-down test to help identify leakage past valves, rings, or other sealing surfaces.
- Check the cylinder 7 pressure sensor signal and wiring against other cylinders and the manufacturer's specification before concluding the pressure loss is mechanical.
Common fixes
- Repair a loose or damaged cylinder 7 injector connection.
- Clean or replace a faulty cylinder 7 injector if testing confirms inadequate fuel delivery.
- Repair a leaking or stuck valve identified by mechanical testing.
- Repair worn or damaged cylinder 7 piston rings or other confirmed compression loss.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid long trips and heavy loads because low cylinder pressure can cause misfires, poor fuel economy, and further emissions-system damage. If the engine runs very roughly or loses substantial power, stop driving and arrange prompt diagnosis.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
