OBD-II fault code

P03D4: Cylinder 7 Pressure Sensor Circuit High

What it means

Cylinder 7 pressure sensor above upper plausibility — open signal or short to B+. Wiring faults of this kind typically come from chafing, water ingress at connector seals, or pin push-back — a wiggle test on the harness while the code is active often confirms the location.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test

How it works

The cylinder 7 pressure sensor measures combustion pressure for the engine’s closed-loop combustion control. The module sets this code when the signal is higher than the plausible range, which can happen if the signal circuit is open or pulled toward battery voltage.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Open signal line
  2. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
  3. Supply wire pinched against B+ source

Symptoms

  • Check-engine light

How to diagnose it

  1. Use a scan tool to record freeze-frame data and check whether the cylinder 7 pressure reading is high continuously or only under particular conditions.
  2. Inspect the cylinder 7 sensor connector and nearby harness for moisture, corrosion, pushed-back pins, chafing, or contact with a power source.
  3. With the signal displayed on a scan tool, gently move the harness and connector to see whether the reading changes or the fault returns.
  4. Check the signal wire for continuity and shorts to battery power, following the manufacturer's wiring information.
  5. Check connector pin fit and the sensor supply and ground circuits against the manufacturer's specification before condemning the sensor.

Common fixes

  • Clean and secure the cylinder 7 sensor connector, or repair corroded or loose terminals.
  • Repair an open or damaged section of the cylinder 7 signal wire.
  • Reroute and secure wiring that is chafed or touching a power source.
  • Replace the cylinder 7 pressure sensor if its signal remains out of range with sound wiring and connections.

Can I keep driving?

With only the check-engine light and no drivability symptoms, limit driving and arrange diagnosis soon. If rough running or loss of power develops, stop driving because combustion control may be unreliable.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
