What it means
Cylinder 6 pressure sensor above upper plausibility — open signal or short to B+. Wiring faults of this kind typically come from chafing, water ingress at connector seals, or pin push-back — a wiggle test on the harness while the code is active often confirms the location.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
How it works
The cylinder 6 pressure sensor measures combustion pressure so the engine controller can assess that cylinder's combustion. This code sets when the signal is higher than the controller considers plausible, which can happen if the signal circuit is open or pulled toward battery power.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Open signal line
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
- Supply wire pinched against B+ source
Symptoms
- Check-engine light
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and check the cylinder 6 pressure-sensor reading with the code active to see whether it is stuck high.
- Inspect the cylinder 6 sensor connector and nearby harness for moisture, corrosion, pushed-back pins, or chafing.
- With the wiring diagram, check the signal wire for an open and for an unintended connection to battery power.
- Check connector contact and sensor supply and ground circuits against the manufacturer's specification.
- If the wiring and connections pass, test the cylinder 6 pressure sensor using the manufacturer's procedure.
Common fixes
- Repair chafed wiring or an open signal connection.
- Clean or repair corroded or pushed-back connector terminals and restore the seal.
- Repair a signal wire shorted to a battery-power source.
- Replace the cylinder 6 pressure sensor if it fails testing.
Can I keep driving?
With only the check-engine light and no drivability symptoms, a short, gentle trip to diagnose it may be reasonable. Avoid hard acceleration and stop if the engine begins running poorly, since the controller may have unreliable combustion data for cylinder 6.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
