OBD-II fault code

P02C5: Cylinder 11 - Injector Leaking

What it means

The control module monitors fuel delivery associated with the cylinder 11 injector and sets this code when it detects injector leakage. The code identifies a leak condition but does not by itself identify whether the injector, its seal, or another part of the fuel system is responsible.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test

How it works

The cylinder 11 injector and its seal control fuel entering cylinder 11. The module monitors fuel delivery and cylinder response, and P02C5 sets when it detects fuel leaking into or around cylinder 11's injector. The code does not distinguish an injector stuck open from a leaking seal or excessive fuel pressure.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Leaking cylinder 11 injector or injector seal
  2. Injector stuck partly open
  3. Excessive fuel pressure
  4. Injector control fault

Symptoms

  • Check-engine light on
  • Rough idle or misfire
  • Fuel smell or dark exhaust smoke
  • Poor fuel economy

How to diagnose it

  1. Save freeze-frame data and inspect cylinder 11 misfire, fuel-trim, and injector-related readings for evidence of excess fuel.
  2. With the engine off and cool, inspect around cylinder 11's injector for visible wetness or fuel odor; do not run the engine if fuel is visibly leaking.
  3. Check cylinder 11's spark plug for fuel fouling and inspect the injector connector and wiring for control faults.
  4. Test cylinder 11 injector leakage and fuel pressure using the applicable vehicle procedure and compare results with the manufacturer's specification.
  5. Confirm whether the injector, its seal, fuel pressure, or control circuit is responsible before fitting a replacement.

Common fixes

  • Replace a leaking cylinder 11 injector seal.
  • Repair an injector-control wiring fault that is keeping cylinder 11's injector energized.
  • Replace the cylinder 11 injector if it leaks or sticks open.
  • Correct excessive fuel pressure if measured outside the manufacturer's specification.

Can I keep driving?

Do not drive if fuel is visibly leaking or the cabin or engine bay smells strongly of fuel; shut the engine off when safe because fuel can ignite. If there is no external leak but the engine misfires or the light flashes, stop driving when safe to limit catalytic-converter damage.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
