What it means
Rail pressure on bank 2 above the target operating range. Often regulator or sensor fault.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The control module monitors fuel rail or system pressure for bank 2 and compares it with its target. This code sets when bank 2 pressure is above the expected operating range, which can point to a regulation fault or an inaccurate pressure signal.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Fuel pressure regulation problem
- Fuel rail pressure sensor or circuit fault
Symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Rough running or hesitation
- Reduced engine power
- Hard starting or stalling
How to diagnose it
- Review freeze-frame data and compare commanded with reported bank 2 pressure in live data to identify when the high reading occurs.
- Inspect the bank 2 pressure sensor connector and harness for loose or corroded contacts, damaged insulation, or other faults that could distort the signal.
- Check bank 2 pressure regulation using the vehicle manufacturer's specified procedure and look for evidence that pressure is not being controlled as commanded.
- Verify reported bank 2 pressure with the manufacturer's specified pressure test to distinguish actual high pressure from a sensor or circuit error.
- Test the bank 2 pressure sensor and its wiring against the manufacturer's specifications if measured pressure does not agree with scan data.
Common fixes
- Repair a loose or corroded bank 2 pressure sensor connection.
- Repair damaged wiring in the bank 2 pressure sensor circuit.
- Repair a confirmed bank 2 fuel pressure regulation fault.
- Replace the bank 2 pressure sensor if it fails the manufacturer's checks.
Can I keep driving?
Rough running, stalling, or reduced power can develop, and the vehicle may enter reduced-power mode. Avoid hard acceleration and stop if it runs unpredictably or cannot keep pace safely.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
