What it means
The fuel rail pressure sensor circuit for Bank 2 is reporting a signal below its expected range.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The fuel rail pressure sensor on bank 2 sends an electrical signal to the control module to represent rail pressure. This circuit-low code means the module sees that sensor's signal below its expected electrical range, which can result from a signal wire short to ground or a poor connection.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
- Harness chafing through insulation
Symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Hard starting or extended cranking
- Rough running or stalling
- Reduced engine power
How to diagnose it
- Use freeze-frame data and live readings to check whether bank 2 fuel pressure is implausibly low or the sensor reading is missing.
- Inspect the bank 2 sensor connector and harness for rubbed-through insulation, moisture, corrosion, loose fit, or a signal wire contacting ground.
- Check the connector terminals for pushed-back pins and poor contact, especially at the signal, power, and ground connections.
- Compare the bank 2 signal with the manufacturer's electrical specification and with the corresponding bank 1 data if available.
- Test the bank 2 signal wire for a short to ground and verify sensor power and ground before replacing the sensor.
Common fixes
- Reconnect the bank 2 sensor connector and clean serviceable terminals.
- Repair a signal wire short to ground or other chafed wiring at the bank 2 sensor.
- Replace corroded, loose, or damaged connector terminals.
- Replace the bank 2 fuel rail pressure sensor if it fails testing after its circuit is repaired.
Can I keep driving?
Hard starting, stalling, or reduced power can make driving unsafe, so avoid heavy loads and stop if the engine stalls or loses substantial power. Do not open the fuel rail without following the vehicle's pressure-release precautions.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
