What it means
The ECU's adaptive correction of fuel volume regulator A has reached its learning limit. Indicates a long-term drift between commanded and actual rail pressure that could no longer be compensated.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The fuel volume regulator meters fuel delivery to the high-pressure pump so the rail can reach the pressure the ECU requests. The ECU learns corrections by comparing commanded rail pressure with measured pressure. P000E sets when the learned correction for regulator A reaches its limit and pressure still does not track the command.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- HP pump worn out
- Fuel filter clogged, restricted supply
- Internal leak (injector or rail)
Symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Hard starting or hesitation
- Rough running or stalling
- Reduced power
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and compare commanded with actual rail pressure during starting and running to see when the mismatch occurs.
- Check the service history and inspect the fuel filter and low-pressure supply for restriction, since inadequate feed can make rail pressure lag.
- Inspect regulator A's connector and wiring for looseness, corrosion, damage, or chafing that could disrupt its control.
- Use scan data to check regulator command and response while monitoring rail pressure for changes.
- If supply and electrical checks pass, test for injector or rail leakage and assess high-pressure pump output using the manufacturer's procedures.
Common fixes
- Replace a restricted fuel filter and correct any low-pressure supply restriction.
- Repair damaged wiring or clean and secure regulator A's connector.
- Replace a faulty fuel volume regulator if its electrical and response tests fail.
- Repair an injector or rail leak identified by testing.
- Replace a worn high-pressure pump if it cannot meet the manufacturer's pressure specification.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid hard acceleration and long trips; hesitation, stalling, or reduced power can make driving unpredictable. If it stalls, is difficult to start, or loses substantial power, stop driving and arrange repair.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
