OBD-II fault code

C0607: Steering Wheel Angle Sensor Circuit High

What it means

Steering wheel angle sensor signal voltage above expected range. Wiring faults of this kind typically come from chafing, water ingress at connector seals, or pin push-back — a wiggle test on the harness while the code is active often confirms the location.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the ABS or stability-control warning light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

The steering wheel angle sensor sends the steering direction and angle to the stability and brake control systems. C0607 sets when the module sees the sensor signal above its expected range, which can occur if the signal is shorted to battery power or a connection is faulty.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Signal wire shorted to battery
  2. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
  3. Supply wire pinched against B+ source

Symptoms

  • ABS warning light on
  • ESC/stability control deactivated
  • Possible reduced brake assist
  • Speedometer may behave erratically

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and watch live steering angle data while turning the wheel to confirm whether the reading is high, fixed, or intermittent.
  2. Inspect the sensor connector and harness for chafing, water ingress, pin damage, or a wire touching a battery-power source.
  3. Move the harness gently while monitoring scan data to check whether the high reading changes.
  4. Test the sensor signal wire for an unintended connection to battery power and inspect its terminals for corrosion or poor contact.
  5. Check sensor power and ground, then test the sensor and calibration according to the manufacturer's procedure.

Common fixes

  • Repair a signal wire shorted to battery power or pinched against a powered wire.
  • Clean or repair corroded, loose, or pushed-back connector terminals.
  • Restore damaged wiring and connector seals.
  • Replace a faulty steering angle sensor and calibrate it if circuit checks pass.

Can I keep driving?

With stability control deactivated and possible brake-assist changes, avoid high speeds, slippery roads, and sudden maneuvers; the speedometer may also be unreliable. Have the vehicle checked promptly, and stop if braking feels abnormal.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
