What it means
The module detects a right-rear wheel-speed sensor signal above the expected range. This indicates an electrical signal fault; the code alone does not establish that other vehicle functions are disabled.
At a glance
- Usually lights the ABS or stability-control warning light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The ABS module monitors the right-rear wheel-speed sensor circuit while the sensor reports wheel rotation. It sets C0515 when the electrical signal is higher than expected, which may point to a signal wire shorted to power or another circuit fault.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Signal wire shorted to power
- Open or damaged wiring
- Damaged connector
- Faulty wheel-speed sensor
Symptoms
- ABS warning light on
- ESC/stability control deactivated
- Possible reduced brake assist
- Speedometer may behave erratically
How to diagnose it
- Review freeze-frame data and live wheel-speed readings to see whether the right-rear signal is implausible or missing while the other wheels read normally.
- Inspect the right-rear sensor connector for damaged pins, corrosion, moisture, or a poor connection.
- Follow the right-rear sensor wiring and look for damaged insulation or contact with a powered wire.
- Test the right-rear circuit for a short to power or an open, using the wiring diagram and manufacturer’s specifications.
- If the wiring is sound, test the right-rear sensor and inspect the tone ring or encoder for damage.
Common fixes
- Repair loose, corroded, or damaged terminals at the right-rear sensor connector.
- Repair an open or short to power in the right-rear sensor wiring.
- Replace a faulty right-rear wheel-speed sensor.
- Repair or replace a damaged right-rear tone ring or encoder.
Can I keep driving?
ABS or stability control may be disabled while the right-rear signal is faulty. Use extra caution, leave more stopping distance, and avoid slippery roads until the circuit is repaired.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
