What it means
Right Rear Wheel Speed Sensor B Circuit High: the signal voltage is above the expected range. Wheel-speed signals feed ABS, ESC, traction control and the speedometer.
At a glance
- Usually lights the ABS or stability-control warning light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The right rear wheel speed sensor B sends wheel-speed information to the ABS control module, which uses it for braking and stability functions. This code sets when the module detects voltage above the expected range on the sensor B circuit, often because the signal or supply wiring is contacting battery voltage.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Signal wire shorted to battery
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
- Supply wire pinched against B+ source
Symptoms
- ABS warning light on
- ESC/stability control deactivated
- Possible reduced brake assist
- Speedometer may behave erratically
How to diagnose it
- Capture freeze-frame data and compare live wheel speeds to determine whether the right rear signal is stuck high or only becomes abnormal intermittently.
- Inspect the right rear sensor B harness for pinching or rubbing against a battery-positive feed or other powered wiring.
- Check the connector for corrosion, displaced pins, or damage that could bridge circuits.
- Following the manufacturer's isolation procedure, test the signal circuit for a short to battery voltage.
- If no external short is found, test the sensor and ABS module circuit connections using the manufacturer's procedure.
Common fixes
- Reroute and secure the right rear sensor B harness away from powered wiring.
- Repair insulation damaged where the signal wire contacts a power source.
- Replace damaged or bridged connector terminals and repair the affected harness.
- Replace sensor B or repair the module only if circuit testing confirms an internal fault.
Can I keep driving?
The car may still stop, but ABS and stability or traction control can be unavailable, with possible speedometer irregularities. Drive cautiously, increase following distance, and avoid slippery roads or hard braking until the circuit is repaired.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
