What it means
The module detects a right-front wheel-speed reading that does not correlate with related wheel-speed signals. The code alone does not establish that the fault occurs only during straight-line driving.
At a glance
- Usually lights the ABS or stability-control warning light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The ABS module compares the right-front wheel-speed reading with the other wheel readings and vehicle conditions. This code sets when the right-front value does not correlate with those related signals, which may result from tire differences, an encoder problem, or a sensor or wiring fault.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Incorrect tire size or significantly different tire wear
- Damaged tone ring or encoder
- Faulty wheel-speed sensor
- Damaged wiring or connector
Symptoms
- ABS warning light on
- ESC/stability control deactivated
- Possible reduced brake assist
- Speedometer may behave erratically
How to diagnose it
- Check freeze-frame data and graph all four wheel-speed readings during a cautious drive to identify when the right-front value diverges from the others.
- Compare tire sizes and wear across the vehicle, including the right-front tire, because a substantial difference can change the wheel-speed relationship.
- Inspect the right-front sensor, connector, and harness for looseness, damage, corrosion, or chafing.
- Inspect the right-front tone ring or encoder and sensor mounting for damage, contamination, or looseness that could cause a mismatched reading.
- Compare the right-front sensor output with the other wheels and test its circuit and sensor against the manufacturer's specification.
Common fixes
- Correct mismatched tire sizes or replace a tire with substantially different wear as appropriate.
- Secure the right-front sensor or connector.
- Repair damaged wiring or connector terminals in the right-front circuit.
- Replace a faulty right-front wheel-speed sensor.
- Repair or replace a damaged right-front tone ring or encoder.
Can I keep driving?
ABS and stability control may be disabled if the module cannot reconcile the right-front reading with the other wheels. Drive cautiously, allow extra stopping distance, and avoid slippery roads until the cause is corrected.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
