What it means
The module detects an intermittent right-front wheel-speed sensor signal. This indicates an unstable signal, but does not by itself identify the failed component.
At a glance
- Usually lights the ABS or stability-control warning light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The ABS module watches the right-front wheel-speed sensor signal while the vehicle moves and expects it to remain stable as that wheel turns. This code sets when the right-front signal cuts in and out, pointing to an intermittent connection, sensor, or encoder problem.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Loose or corroded connector
- Damaged or chafed wiring
- Failing wheel-speed sensor
- Damaged tone ring or encoder
Symptoms
- ABS warning light on
- ESC/stability control deactivated
- Possible reduced brake assist
- Speedometer may behave erratically
How to diagnose it
- Review freeze-frame data and graph all four live wheel-speed readings; look for the right-front signal to drop out or spike as the fault occurs.
- Inspect and gently move the right-front sensor harness and connector while monitoring the reading for changes, paying attention to bends and suspension movement points.
- Check the connector for corrosion or loose terminals and the wiring for chafing, breaks, or intermittent contact.
- Inspect the right-front sensor mounting and tone ring or encoder for looseness, damage, or contamination.
- Test the right-front sensor and wiring for intermittent faults using the manufacturer's procedure and specification.
Common fixes
- Secure the loose right-front sensor connector.
- Clean corrosion or replace damaged terminals in the connector.
- Repair chafed or broken right-front sensor wiring.
- Replace a wheel-speed sensor that fails testing or drops out intermittently.
- Repair or replace a damaged right-front tone ring or encoder.
Can I keep driving?
The intermittent fault can disable ABS and stability control without warning, and brake assist may be reduced. Drive cautiously with extra stopping distance and avoid slippery or high-speed driving until repaired.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
