What it means
The module detects a right-front wheel-speed sensor signal outside the expected range or inconsistent with vehicle conditions. The code identifies a signal problem but does not specify its cause.
At a glance
- Usually lights the ABS or stability-control warning light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The ABS module compares the right-front wheel-speed sensor signal with expected wheel rotation and the other wheel readings. This code sets when the right-front signal is present but falls outside the expected range or behaves inconsistently.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Damaged sensor wiring or connector
- Faulty wheel-speed sensor
- Damaged tone ring or encoder
- Loose sensor mounting
Symptoms
- ABS warning light on
- ESC/stability control deactivated
- Possible reduced brake assist
- Speedometer may behave erratically
How to diagnose it
- Review freeze-frame data and graph all four live wheel-speed readings during a cautious low-speed drive; look for the right-front value dropping out, jumping, or diverging.
- Inspect the right-front sensor, connector, and harness for looseness, chafing, corrosion, or damage that could distort the signal.
- Check that the right-front sensor is mounted firmly and positioned correctly, and inspect the tone ring or encoder for damage, contamination, or uneven rotation.
- Compare the right-front sensor output with the other wheels while rotating the wheel and check for an irregular signal pattern.
- Test the right-front sensor and wiring using the applicable procedure and manufacturer's specification.
Common fixes
- Secure a loose right-front sensor or connector.
- Repair damaged right-front sensor wiring or connector terminals.
- Clean debris from the right-front sensor or encoder area.
- Replace a faulty right-front wheel-speed sensor.
- Repair or replace a damaged right-front tone ring or encoder.
Can I keep driving?
The brakes may still operate, but ABS and stability control can be disabled while the signal is unreliable. Drive gently with extra stopping distance and avoid conditions that may require those systems.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
