What it means
The ABS control module has detected a fault in the left front ABS solenoid 2 circuit.
At a glance
- Usually lights the ABS or stability-control warning light
How it works
The ABS hydraulic unit uses individual solenoids to control brake pressure at each wheel; solenoid 2 serves the left-front channel. The ABS module monitors that solenoid’s electrical circuit and sets this code when it detects an electrical fault, such as an open or short.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Open or shorted wiring
- Loose or corroded connector
- Failed solenoid coil
- ABS control module fault
Symptoms
- ABS warning light
- ABS may be disabled
How to diagnose it
- Scan the ABS module for companion codes and freeze-frame data to see whether the fault is confined to the left-front solenoid 2 circuit.
- With the vehicle safely parked, inspect the ABS hydraulic unit connector and left-front solenoid wiring for looseness, corrosion, chafing, or damage.
- Check the connector terminals and circuit continuity for an open, short to ground, or short to power using the manufacturer's wiring information.
- Measure the left-front solenoid 2 coil and compare it with the manufacturer's specification, checking for an open or abnormal reading.
- If the wiring, connector, and coil pass, follow the manufacturer's tests to check the ABS module driver before considering module replacement.
Common fixes
- Reconnect and secure the ABS hydraulic-unit connector.
- Repair damaged or corroded wiring and terminals in the left-front solenoid 2 circuit.
- Replace the left-front solenoid 2 coil or hydraulic unit if testing confirms it has failed.
- Repair or replace the ABS control module only after its circuit driver is confirmed faulty.
Can I keep driving?
Normal braking may remain, but ABS may be unavailable, so wheels can lock during hard braking, especially on slippery roads. Drive cautiously, leave extra stopping distance, and avoid hard braking until the fault is repaired.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
