OBD-II fault code

C0070: Right Front Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) Solenoid 1 Circuit Malfunction

What it means

The ABS control module has detected a fault in the right front ABS solenoid 1 circuit.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the ABS or stability-control warning light

How it works

The ABS hydraulic unit uses solenoids to adjust brake pressure at individual wheels; solenoid 1 serves the right-front channel. The ABS module monitors this solenoid's electrical circuit and sets the code when it detects a fault such as an open or short.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Open or shorted wiring
  2. Loose or corroded connector
  3. Failed solenoid coil
  4. ABS control module fault

Symptoms

  • ABS warning light
  • ABS may be disabled

How to diagnose it

  1. Scan the ABS module for companion codes and freeze-frame data to confirm the fault concerns the right-front solenoid 1 circuit.
  2. Inspect the ABS hydraulic-unit connector and right-front solenoid wiring for looseness, corrosion, chafing, or other damage.
  3. Check connector terminals and circuit continuity for an open or a short to ground or power using the manufacturer's wiring information.
  4. Measure the right-front solenoid 1 coil and compare the result with the manufacturer's specification.
  5. If the wiring, connector, and coil pass, follow the manufacturer's procedure to test the ABS module driver before considering module replacement.

Common fixes

  • Reconnect and secure the ABS hydraulic-unit connector.
  • Repair damaged wiring or corroded terminals in the right-front solenoid 1 circuit.
  • Replace the right-front solenoid 1 coil or hydraulic unit if testing confirms it has failed.
  • Repair or replace the ABS module only if testing confirms a faulty driver.

Can I keep driving?

ABS may be unavailable, so the wheels can lock during hard braking, particularly on slippery surfaces. Drive cautiously, leave extra stopping distance, and avoid hard braking until the circuit is repaired.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
