What it means
This code identifies a fault associated with the multi-axis acceleration sensor. The specific failure depends on the diagnostic subtype.
At a glance
- Usually lights the ABS or stability-control warning light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
A multi-axis acceleration sensor measures vehicle movement in more than one direction so the stability system can compare actual motion with the driver's steering input. This subfault code identifies a problem associated with that sensor, while its diagnostic subtype specifies the particular failure.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Sensor failed
Symptoms
- ABS or stability-control warning light
- Stability control may be limited or disabled
How to diagnose it
- Retrieve the stability-control module's subtype, related codes, and freeze-frame data to determine which acceleration-sensor axis or condition is implicated.
- View live multi-axis acceleration readings with the vehicle stationary and check that they are plausible and stable.
- Inspect the sensor and its connector for secure mounting, corrosion, loose terminals, or damaged wiring.
- Check the sensor's power, ground, and signal circuits against the manufacturer's wiring information and specifications.
- If mounting and circuits check out, perform the subtype-specific sensor test before deciding whether the sensor has failed.
Common fixes
- Reconnect and secure the multi-axis sensor connector.
- Repair damaged wiring or poor ground connections at the sensor.
- Correct sensor mounting if it has shifted and the manufacturer's procedure requires alignment.
- Replace the multi-axis acceleration sensor if testing confirms an internal fault.
Can I keep driving?
Stability control may be limited or disabled, so the vehicle may offer less help correcting a skid. Drive smoothly, avoid abrupt manoeuvres and poor-traction conditions, and arrange diagnosis soon.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
