What it means
This code identifies a fault associated with the yaw rate or longitudinal sensor system. The specific failure depends on the diagnostic subtype.
At a glance
- Usually lights the ABS or stability-control warning light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The yaw-rate and longitudinal-acceleration sensors report how quickly the vehicle rotates and accelerates or slows along its length, information used by stability control. This subfault code points to that sensor system, but the diagnostic subtype is needed to identify the specific failure.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Sensor cluster failed
Symptoms
- ABS or stability-control warning light
- Stability control may be limited or disabled
How to diagnose it
- Read the stability-control module's full code and subtype, plus any related codes and freeze-frame data, to identify which sensor signal or condition triggered the fault.
- Check live yaw-rate and longitudinal-acceleration readings with the vehicle stationary; they should be plausible and stable for that condition.
- Inspect the sensor cluster connector, mounting, and nearby wiring for looseness, corrosion, damage, or signs it has shifted.
- Check the sensor's power, ground, and communication circuits against the manufacturer's wiring information and specifications.
- If the circuits and mounting are sound, test the sensor cluster according to the subtype-specific manufacturer procedure before replacing it.
Common fixes
- Secure a loose sensor connector or correct a poor connection.
- Repair damaged wiring or ground connections to the sensor cluster.
- Correct sensor mounting or alignment if it has shifted and the manufacturer's procedure calls for it.
- Replace the yaw-rate/longitudinal sensor cluster if subtype-guided testing confirms failure.
Can I keep driving?
Stability control may be limited or disabled, reducing assistance if the vehicle starts to skid. Drive cautiously, avoid abrupt manoeuvres and slippery conditions, and have the subtype diagnosed promptly.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
