What is the Dodge Ramcharger?

The Dodge Ramcharger is a full-size, two-door SUV based on Dodge’s pickup truck chassis. It paired a truck-based design with an enclosed passenger cabin, and was offered with four-wheel drive.

The name spans more than one design. The US EPA range covered here is the second generation, sold from 1984 to 1993. It followed a redesign of Dodge’s pickup line and adopted its more angular styling. The removable roof of the first generation gave way to a fixed steel roof.

Generations and engines

The first Ramcharger arrived in 1974. The second generation, known by the AD code, ran from 1984 to 1993. Dodge updated its styling during that run, while keeping the large, truck-based SUV layout.

The US range used petrol V8 engines from 5.2 L to 5.9 L.

Fuel consumption and where it was sold

The official US EPA figures give a best combined rating of 14 MPG and a lowest listed consumption of 16.8 L/100 km. These are two expressions of the same fuel economy result. EPA testing uses a different procedure from European WLTP and NEDC tests.

The US range ran from 1984 to 1993 and included 48 petrol versions.
