OBD-II fault code

U05BE: Invalid Data Received From Night Vision Control Module

What it means

A receiving module detected implausible data from the night vision module. Infrared image stream or pedestrian detection values fail plausibility checks and are rejected.

How it works

The night vision control module processes infrared camera images and may provide pedestrian-detection information to other vehicle systems. This code sets when a receiving module considers the image stream or detection data implausible and rejects it, leaving night vision features unavailable or limited.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Module internal fault or sensor input drift
  2. Software version mismatch after replacement
  3. Gateway module routing CAN messages incorrectly

Symptoms

  • Multiple warning lights may illuminate
  • Affected modules may go into limp mode or shut down
  • Specific functions inoperative depending on module
  • Diagnostic tools may show communication faults

How to diagnose it

  1. Scan all modules and save freeze-frame data to identify which module rejected night vision data and whether related camera or communication faults are stored.
  2. Check the night vision display and warnings to see whether the image or pedestrian-detection feature is unavailable.
  3. Inspect the infrared camera lens and its field of view for dirt, ice, damage, or an obstruction.
  4. Inspect the night vision module's connectors and accessible wiring for looseness, corrosion, or damage.
  5. Use a scan tool to review camera stream or pedestrian-detection status and check for related CAN or gateway faults.
  6. If the camera or control module was replaced, verify software compatibility and vehicle configuration.

Common fixes

  • Clean the infrared camera lens and clear any obstruction from its field of view.
  • Repair damaged or poorly connected night vision wiring or connectors.
  • Correct gateway routing or network configuration if night vision data is being mishandled.
  • Update or configure a replacement module to the required software version.
  • Replace the night vision camera or control module if its output remains implausible and an internal fault is confirmed.

Can I keep driving?

The vehicle may be driven, but night vision imaging and pedestrian detection may be unavailable. Rely on normal headlights and direct observation, and do not treat the system as a substitute for watching the road.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
