OBD-II fault code

U0523: Invalid Data Received From Door Window Motor A

What it means

A receiving module detected implausible data from door window motor A. Position, motor current or anti-pinch values fail plausibility checks and are rejected.

How it works

Door window motor A moves its window and may report position, motor current, or anti-pinch information to other modules. U0523 sets when a receiving module rejects one of those reports as implausible.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Module internal fault or sensor input drift
  2. Software version mismatch after replacement
  3. Gateway module routing CAN messages incorrectly

Symptoms

  • Multiple warning lights may illuminate
  • Affected modules may go into limp mode or shut down
  • Specific functions inoperative depending on module
  • Diagnostic tools may show communication faults

How to diagnose it

  1. Scan all modules and record freeze-frame data and related window or communication codes to identify which module rejected window motor A's data.
  2. Use live data while operating the affected window and compare reported position or anti-pinch status with the window's actual movement.
  3. Inspect window motor A's connectors and door harness, especially the flexing section between the door and body, for damage, corrosion, or loose connections.
  4. Check the window track and regulator for binding that could produce abnormal motor-current or anti-pinch readings.
  5. Check for recent motor or module replacement and have a technician verify configuration, network messages, and the motor circuit.

Common fixes

  • Repair damaged or corroded wiring and connectors at window motor A.
  • Remove window-track obstruction or repair binding regulator components.
  • Correct module configuration or software compatibility after a motor or module replacement.
  • Replace window motor A if its position or current data remains implausible in testing.
  • Repair network routing or replace a faulty module if tests isolate that cause.

Can I keep driving?

Driving is generally possible if the window is secured, but an inoperative window can reduce visibility, weather protection, or the ability to exit through it. Do not rely on the affected window's anti-pinch protection until the fault is resolved.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
