OBD-II fault code

U0526: Invalid Data Received From Door Window Motor D

What it means

A receiving module detected implausible data from door window motor D. Position, motor current or anti-pinch values fail plausibility checks and are rejected.

How it works

Door window motor D drives one of the vehicle’s power windows and reports values such as window position, motor load, and anti-pinch status to other modules over the vehicle network. U0526 is set when a receiving module rejects data attributed to motor D because it fails plausibility checks.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Module internal fault or sensor input drift
  2. Software version mismatch after replacement
  3. Gateway module routing CAN messages incorrectly

Symptoms

  • Multiple warning lights may illuminate
  • Affected modules may go into limp mode or shut down
  • Specific functions inoperative depending on module
  • Diagnostic tools may show communication faults

How to diagnose it

  1. Scan all modules and save freeze-frame details to find the module reporting U0526 and any accompanying network or window codes.
  2. Watch motor D’s live position, current, and anti-pinch data while operating its window, and compare the readings with the window’s actual movement.
  3. Inspect motor D’s connector and accessible harness for loose terminals, corrosion, moisture, or chafing that could corrupt communications.
  4. If motor D or a related module was recently replaced, verify the part’s configuration and software compatibility using vehicle service information.
  5. Check network communication and gateway routing for motor D using the correct wiring diagram and a scan tool capable of accessing the relevant modules.
  6. When the network and configuration are verified, test the receiving module and motor D’s control electronics according to the manufacturer’s procedure.

Common fixes

  • Clean and secure a loose or corroded connector, or repair damaged wiring at motor D or the reporting module.
  • Correct incompatible software or configuration following a motor or module replacement.
  • Install a manufacturer-recommended software update or restore the correct module configuration.
  • Repair or replace the component proven faulty by testing: the receiving module, gateway, or motor D control electronics.

Can I keep driving?

The code does not indicate an engine fault, but the window operated by motor D may be unavailable or behave unpredictably. Secure the window and avoid relying on its anti-pinch protection until the fault is resolved.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
