What it means
The reporting module has lost communication with Information Center B on the vehicle network. It sets this code when expected messages from that module are not received for a specified time.
How it works
Information Center B is a vehicle module that supplies information to the vehicle network for display or related functions. Other modules expect to receive its network messages; U0157 sets when the reporting module does not receive those messages for the required time.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Information Center B power or ground fault
- Damaged or corroded network wiring or connectors
- CAN bus short or open circuit
- Information Center B module failure
- Low battery voltage
Symptoms
- Information Center B display or functions stop working
- Warning lights or messages
- Other communication codes
How to diagnose it
- Use a scan tool to identify which module stored U0157, check for related communication codes, and review freeze-frame data for low system voltage or other network faults.
- Check battery condition and charging-system operation, since low voltage can interrupt communication with Information Center B.
- Inspect Information Center B's power and ground connections and its network connectors for looseness, corrosion, or damaged wiring.
- Use a scan tool to check whether Information Center B responds and whether its display or functions are operating.
- If power and ground are sound, test the network wiring for opens or shorts and compare results with the manufacturer's specification.
- If the network and its connections test correctly, investigate the reporting module or Information Center B for a module or communication fault.
Common fixes
- Restore battery charge or repair a charging-system fault.
- Clean and secure a loose or corroded Information Center B connector or ground.
- Repair damaged network wiring or a CAN bus open or short.
- Repair or replace Information Center B if its power, ground, and network circuits are sound.
Can I keep driving?
If only the information display is affected and the vehicle otherwise operates normally, you can usually drive cautiously, but you may miss display information or warnings. Stop safely if other warning lights appear or vehicle functions change, and arrange diagnosis.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
