What it means
The reporting module has lost communication with Gateway E on the vehicle network. It sets this code when expected messages from that gateway are not received for a specified time.
How it works
Gateway E routes messages between parts of the vehicle network so separate controllers can exchange information. U0150 sets when the reporting module does not receive expected messages from Gateway E for the required time, which can interrupt features that depend on the gateway's network path.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Gateway E power or ground fault
- Damaged or corroded network wiring or connectors
- CAN bus short or open circuit
- Gateway E module failure
- Low battery voltage
Symptoms
- Intermittent or inoperative vehicle features
- Warning lights or messages
- Other communication codes
- Difficulty starting or operating some systems
How to diagnose it
- Scan all modules and record current and stored communication codes and freeze-frame data to see whether the problem is isolated to Gateway E or affects multiple network areas.
- Check the 12-volt battery and charging system, since low voltage can cause several controllers to drop offline.
- Inspect Gateway E's accessible connectors, wiring, and relevant fuses for looseness, corrosion, moisture, or damage.
- Use the wiring diagram to verify Gateway E's power and ground under the specified conditions.
- Test CAN wiring for opens, shorts, or poor connections and check gateway routing with the manufacturer's network procedure.
- If power, ground, and network circuits pass, check whether Gateway E responds to a compatible scan tool and whether configuration is correct.
Common fixes
- Charge or replace a weak 12-volt battery and repair any charging-system fault.
- Replace a blown fuse or repair Gateway E's power or ground connection.
- Repair damaged or corroded network wiring or connectors.
- Correct a confirmed gateway routing or configuration issue.
- Replace Gateway E only after its power, ground, and CAN circuits have been verified.
Can I keep driving?
Driving may be possible if the vehicle starts and operates normally, but avoid a trip if essential features, starting, or displays are unreliable. Stop safely if warnings indicate loss of braking, steering, restraint, or powertrain functions, and arrange diagnosis.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
