What it means
The inductive charger reports a high voltage interlock circuit/open condition. Inductive charging cannot proceed reliably.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
How it works
The high-voltage interlock is a safety loop that lets the vehicle check whether relevant high-voltage connectors and covers are properly engaged. P2EB4 indicates the inductive battery charger sees that loop as open or interrupted, so it prevents or cannot reliably perform inductive charging.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Interlock chain interrupted
- Connector not seated
- Pin pushed back out of connector body
Symptoms
- Hybrid/EV system warning may appear
- Inductive charging may be unavailable
How to diagnose it
- Read charger and hybrid or EV control-module codes and freeze-frame data to identify whether the interlock fault is current and which charging event triggered it.
- With the vehicle powered down as directed by its service information, visually check accessible inductive-charger connectors and covers for incomplete seating or damage.
- Check connector bodies for pushed-back, bent or damaged interlock pins, taking care not to probe high-voltage components.
- Have the interlock chain and its wiring checked for continuity and secure connections using the manufacturer’s high-voltage safety procedure.
- After repairing a seating, pin or wiring fault, clear the codes and verify that the charger recognizes the interlock and permits charging.
Common fixes
- Fully seat an accessible charger connector that is visibly loose, following the vehicle’s shutdown instructions.
- Repair a damaged low-voltage interlock wire or connector found in the circuit.
- Correct a pushed-back or damaged connector pin using the manufacturer’s repair procedure.
- Replace a failed interlock or charger component only after circuit checks identify it as the fault.
Can I keep driving?
The code usually disables inductive charging rather than propulsion, but follow any hybrid or EV system warning and do not touch or open high-voltage components. Use another approved charging method if available, and arrange prompt service if the warning persists.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
