What it means
The input voltage sensor of battery charger B reports a range/performance fault. Mains input voltage measurement is unreliable.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Battery charger B measures its mains input voltage so the charging system can assess the power available at the inlet. The control module monitors whether sensor B's reading behaves within its expected range; this code sets when the signal is implausible or performs inconsistently, rather than simply registering a consistently low or high value.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Sensor characteristic drifted
- High-resistance contact
- Sensor element aged beyond calibration window
Symptoms
- Charge status indicator shows fault
- Charging may not start or interrupts
- Slower-than-expected charge rate
How to diagnose it
- Review freeze-frame data and charger status, then check live input-voltage sensor B data while charging is attempted.
- Confirm whether charging starts, stops, or slows at the same time the sensor reading becomes implausible.
- Inspect charger B's input-voltage sensor connector for loose fit, corrosion, or damaged terminals.
- Check the sensor wiring and supply connections for high resistance, damage, or poor contact.
- If wiring and contacts are sound, test sensor B against the manufacturer's specification to determine whether its characteristic has drifted.
Common fixes
- Reconnect and secure the input-voltage sensor B connector.
- Clean or repair high-resistance connector contacts.
- Repair damaged wiring or supply connections to charger B's sensor.
- Replace the input-voltage sensor or charger B module if testing confirms sensor drift or an internal fault.
Can I keep driving?
The vehicle can generally be driven, but charging may not start, may stop unexpectedly, or may be slower than expected. Do not rely on the vehicle gaining charge until the input reading is trustworthy.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
