What it means
The sense feedback circuit for the charge air cooler coolant pump reports a low condition. Pump output verification is impaired.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The charge air cooler coolant pump circulates coolant to control compressed-air temperature, and its sense circuit lets the control module verify pump operation. P2CA2 sets when that feedback signal is below its expected range, commonly from a short to ground or an open sense wire.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Sense wire shorted to ground
- Open in sense wire
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- Check-engine light
- Reduced engine power or acceleration
- Charge-air temperature warning, if equipped
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and review live pump feedback and charge-air temperature to establish when the low signal occurred.
- Inspect the pump connector and sense wire for damage, disconnected plugs, corrosion, or chafing against ground.
- Check connector pins for corrosion or looseness that could interrupt the feedback circuit.
- Using the vehicle wiring information, test the sense circuit for continuity and for a short to ground.
- Compare the circuit readings and pump feedback with the manufacturer's specification before condemning the pump or control module.
Common fixes
- Reconnect the pump plug or clean and secure its corroded pins.
- Repair an open or damaged section of the sense wire.
- Repair a sense wire shorted to ground.
- Replace the pump only if testing confirms its feedback output is faulty.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid heavy loads and sustained boost because the module may not be able to verify charge-air cooling, and power may be reduced. Stop if a charge-air temperature warning appears or the engine loses substantial power.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
