What it means
The sense feedback circuit for the charge air cooler coolant pump reports a high condition. Pump output verification is impaired.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The charge air cooler coolant pump circulates coolant to remove heat from compressed intake air, while its sense circuit reports feedback used to verify pump output. P2CA1 sets when the control module sees that feedback signal higher than its expected range, which can indicate a short to power, high driver feedback, or a poor connector contact.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Sense wire shorted to B+
- Pump driver feedback drifted high
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- Check-engine light
- Reduced engine power or acceleration
- Charge-air temperature warning, if equipped
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and check live charge-air temperature and pump feedback data to see when the high signal appeared.
- Inspect the pump connector and sense wiring for corrosion, damaged insulation, or contact with a power feed.
- Check connector pins for corrosion or looseness that could create high contact resistance.
- With the circuit identified from vehicle service information, test the sense wire for a short to power and check pump-driver feedback.
- Compare circuit and pump behavior with the manufacturer's specification before replacing the pump or module.
Common fixes
- Clean and secure corroded or loose pump connector pins.
- Repair sense wiring shorted to power or damaged insulation.
- Replace the pump if its feedback output is confirmed to have drifted high.
- Repair the pump driver only if circuit testing confirms its feedback is faulty.
Can I keep driving?
Drive gently and avoid sustained boost or heavy loads because ineffective charge-air cooling can raise intake temperatures and reduce power. Stop if a temperature warning appears or power drops sharply.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
