What it means
The hybrid battery interface control module A reports a performance fault. Internal self-tests fail or response time outside calibration.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Battery interface control module A handles communication between the hybrid battery and the vehicle’s battery management system. The vehicle monitors module A’s self-checks and response to battery-management requests; this code sets when those checks fail or its response falls outside the expected timing or performance range.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Internal control module fault
- Communication with BMS degraded
- Pack cell imbalance approaching service threshold
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced power output or limp mode
- Charging may fail or be slowed
- Reduced electric range
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and all hybrid-system codes before clearing anything, because related battery or communication codes can point to the cause.
- With a compatible scan tool, compare module A’s status and response data with the battery management system’s data to see whether the fault is limited to module A.
- Inspect module A’s connectors and accessible wiring for looseness, corrosion, damage, or signs of water intrusion.
- Check for battery-management-system communication faults and verify the relevant low-voltage power, ground, and network circuits against the manufacturer’s specification.
- Review battery cell or group balance data for readings approaching the vehicle’s service threshold, then follow the manufacturer’s diagnostic procedure to distinguish pack imbalance from a module fault.
Common fixes
- Repair a loose, corroded, or damaged module A connector or wiring.
- Repair a verified low-voltage power, ground, or communication-network fault affecting module A.
- Address a battery cell imbalance if the manufacturer’s diagnostic results identify it as the cause.
- Replace or reprogram battery interface control module A if its self-test or response remains faulty after circuit and battery checks.
Can I keep driving?
Because reduced power or limp mode and charging problems are possible, avoid long trips and situations where sudden loss of hybrid power would be hazardous. If the vehicle limits power, displays a battery warning, or will not charge normally, stop in a safe place and arrange service; continued use may leave the vehicle unable to provide normal electric assist.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
