What it means
The control circuit of fuel pressure regulator D is open. Solenoid cannot be energised on command.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Fuel pressure regulator D uses an electrically controlled solenoid to help regulate fuel pressure. The control module monitors the regulator D control circuit; P2C02 sets when it detects an open circuit that prevents the solenoid from being energised as commanded.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Open in regulator control wire
- Open regulator coil
- Pin pushed back out of connector body
Symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Hard start, no start, or stalling under load
- Power loss especially at high load or rpm
- Possible long cranking time
How to diagnose it
- Check freeze-frame data and fuel-pressure live data to see how regulator D’s circuit fault affected starting or engine load.
- With the ignition off as specified by the manufacturer, inspect regulator D’s connector for a pushed-back pin, loose fit, corrosion, or harness damage.
- Check the regulator D control wire for an open between the connector and the control module using the wiring diagram.
- Test the regulator D solenoid coil for continuity using the manufacturer’s procedure and compare the result with its specification.
- If the coil and wiring pass, check the circuit terminals and control-module connection for a poor or interrupted connection.
Common fixes
- Seat or repair the pushed-back terminal at regulator D’s connector.
- Repair an open or damaged regulator D control wire.
- Replace regulator D if its solenoid coil is open.
- Repair a confirmed open connection at the control-module end of the circuit.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid demanding acceleration because fuel pressure may not be controlled correctly, and stop if the engine stalls or will not restart. A stall in traffic can be hazardous, and the vehicle may become difficult to start.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
