What it means
The hybrid control module detects a circuit/open fault on the high-voltage battery coolant level sensor. Coolant loss in the battery loop cannot be detected reliably.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The high-voltage battery cooling loop uses a level sensor to let the hybrid control module know whether enough coolant is present. P2BE0 sets when the module detects an open in the sensor circuit, so it cannot reliably monitor coolant level.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Open in sensor signal wire
- Level sensor failed
- Pin pushed back out of connector body
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced power output or limp mode
- Charging may fail or be slowed
- Reduced electric range
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and check hybrid-system live data for the battery coolant level reading and related faults before clearing anything.
- With the vehicle safely powered down according to its service information, inspect the battery coolant reservoir and look for signs of leakage that could accompany a level warning.
- Inspect the level sensor connector for a pushed-back pin, poor seating, corrosion, or damaged wiring.
- Check the sensor signal wire and its connections for an open circuit using the manufacturer's wiring diagram and specification.
- If the wiring and connector are intact, test the level sensor and replace it only if it fails the manufacturer's checks.
Common fixes
- Reconnect the sensor connector securely and correctly seat any displaced terminal.
- Repair an open or damaged signal wire and restore its insulation and routing.
- Replace a failed battery coolant level sensor.
- Repair any coolant leak found and refill or bleed the loop using the vehicle's specified procedure.
Can I keep driving?
Treat this as a hybrid-system fault: reduced power or charging limits may occur, and the vehicle may not detect low battery coolant. Avoid demanding driving and arrange prompt diagnosis; stop if a temperature warning appears or power drops sharply.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
