What it means
The positive contactor B of the battery charging system reports a stuck open condition. HV charging path cannot be commanded reliably.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Positive contactor B closes to connect a section of the high-voltage battery charging path when the hybrid system requests it. P2BC6 sets when the system detects that contactor B has not closed as commanded, leaving that path unavailable or unreliable.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Contactor contacts oxidised - high resistance
- Contactor coil burned out
- Carbon or debris buildup preventing free movement
Symptoms
- Hybrid-system warning light or message
- Vehicle may not enter READY mode
- Charging may be unavailable
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and compare contactor B’s commanded state with its reported state during a charging or READY request.
- Check related hybrid-system codes and the event timing for a supply, interlock, or control fault that could prevent the closing command.
- With the high-voltage system disabled according to the manufacturer’s procedure, inspect the low-voltage control connector and harness for corrosion, loose pins, or damage.
- Have a qualified technician test the contactor coil, control circuit, and contactor response to the manufacturer’s procedure, without probing live high-voltage terminals.
- After repair, confirm that contactor B closes as commanded and verify that the vehicle enters READY and accepts charging.
Common fixes
- Clean or repair a poor low-voltage connector contact or damaged control wire.
- Replace positive contactor B if its coil or mechanical operation fails the manufacturer’s test.
- Repair a confirmed control-circuit fault that prevents the closing command.
Can I keep driving?
If the vehicle will not enter READY or charging is unavailable, do not count on it for transportation; arrange qualified hybrid-system service or recovery. Avoid handling high-voltage components.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
