What it means
The positive contactor B of the battery charging system reports a control circuit/open condition. HV charging path cannot be commanded reliably.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Positive contactor B is commanded through a low-voltage control circuit that operates the high-voltage charging-path switch. P2BC7 sets when that control circuit is detected as open, so the system cannot reliably command contactor B.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Open in coil control wire
- Open contactor coil
- Pin pushed back out of connector body
Symptoms
- Hybrid-system warning light or message
- Vehicle may not enter READY mode
- Charging may be unavailable
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and check contactor B command and status to determine whether the open-circuit fault appears during a switching request.
- With the high-voltage system safely disabled, inspect the contactor B connector for a pushed-back pin, poor lock, corrosion, or damage.
- Trace the low-voltage coil-control wiring for a break or chafed section, using the manufacturer’s wiring diagram.
- Check continuity of the control wire and contactor coil using the manufacturer’s procedure, with the circuit isolated as specified.
- After repairing the open, clear the code and confirm that contactor B responds to commands and the vehicle enters READY.
Common fixes
- Seat or repair a pushed-back pin at the contactor B connector.
- Repair an open or damaged section of the low-voltage control wire.
- Replace positive contactor B if its coil is open under the manufacturer’s test.
Can I keep driving?
If the hybrid warning is on, charging is unavailable, or the vehicle cannot enter READY, arrange service or recovery instead of relying on it for a trip. Do not inspect or repair high-voltage wiring yourself.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
