What it means
The electric/auxiliary transmission fluid pump control valve circuit is reporting a high electrical condition.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The electric or auxiliary transmission pump control valve regulates hydraulic flow or pressure through an electrically controlled coil. The module monitors the valve circuit and sets P27E6 when its electrical reading is higher than expected, commonly because the control wire is shorted to battery voltage or the coil is open.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Control wire shorted to B+
- Open valve coil
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- Check engine or transmission warning light on
- Harsh, delayed, or missing shifts
- Possible limp mode (locked in one gear)
- Slipping or shuddering during gear changes
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and check live data for valve command, pump pressure, and the conditions when the high-circuit fault sets.
- Inspect the control-valve wiring and connector for corrosion, loose pins, broken conductors, or insulation damage that could expose the wire to battery power.
- With the circuit isolated as specified by the manufacturer, check for an open in the control wire and a short to battery voltage.
- Measure control-valve coil resistance and compare it with the manufacturer's specification; an open coil can cause a high-circuit reading.
- If the circuit and coil pass, test the module output and terminals using the manufacturer's diagnostic procedure.
Common fixes
- Clean and secure corroded or loose control-valve connector terminals.
- Repair the control wire if it is open or shorted to battery voltage.
- Replace the control valve if its coil is open or outside specification.
- Repair the module driver only after confirming the valve and wiring are sound.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid driving if the transmission shifts harshly, slips, or enters limp mode, because pump pressure control may be compromised and continued driving can cause damage. If gear selection or drive is unreliable, stop and arrange assistance.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
