OBD-II fault code

P27E3: Electric/Auxiliary Transmission Fluid Pump Control Valve Circuit/Open

What it means

The control circuit for the electric/auxiliary transmission fluid pump control valve is reporting an open condition.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

The electric or auxiliary transmission pump control valve regulates fluid flow or pressure in the pump system, and its coil is operated through a dedicated circuit. The module monitors that circuit and sets P27E3 when it detects an open path, which can be caused by broken wiring, an open coil, or a poor connector connection.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Open or damaged valve-control wiring
  2. Open control-valve coil
  3. Loose or corroded connector

Symptoms

  • Transmission warning light
  • Delayed, harsh, or failed shifts

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and review transmission live data and related pump or valve codes to establish when the control-valve circuit fault occurs.
  2. Inspect the control-valve connector and nearby harness for disconnected plugs, corrosion, damaged pins, or broken wires.
  3. With power removed as specified by the manufacturer, check continuity through the control-valve circuit and its wiring for an open.
  4. Measure the control-valve coil resistance and compare it with the manufacturer's specification to identify an open coil.
  5. If wiring and coil continuity are correct, check module power, ground, and output at the connector using the manufacturer's diagnostic procedure.

Common fixes

  • Reconnect and secure a loose control-valve connector.
  • Clean corroded terminals and repair damaged connector pins.
  • Repair an open or broken wire in the control-valve circuit.
  • Replace the pump control valve if its coil is open or outside specification.

Can I keep driving?

Avoid driving if shifts are delayed, harsh, or fail, or if the transmission enters limp mode; pump control may be unreliable and further operation can damage the transmission. If the vehicle cannot select or hold a gear safely, stop driving and arrange assistance.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
