What it means
The measured current of the second auxiliary transmission fluid pump motor is below the lower threshold. Pump may be free-spinning or motor partially open.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
How it works
The control system measures current drawn by electric or auxiliary transmission fluid pump B to determine whether its motor is working as expected. P276E sets when measured current falls below the lower limit, which can indicate a partially open motor winding or a motor turning without properly driving the pump.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Partial winding open in motor
- Pump impeller decoupled from motor shaft
Symptoms
- Check engine or transmission warning light on
- Harsh, delayed, or missing shifts
- Possible limp mode (locked in one gear)
- Slipping or shuddering during gear changes
How to diagnose it
- Check freeze-frame data and live pump B current when the module commands the pump on.
- Inspect pump B’s connector and wiring for an open, loose pin, corrosion, or a damaged supply or ground path.
- Check supply voltage and ground at pump B under command to rule out a feed fault causing low current.
- Measure pump B motor current and compare it with the manufacturer's specification.
- If electrical supply is sound, check whether the motor shaft drives the impeller and whether the pump produces pressure as specified.
Common fixes
- Repair an open or loose connection in pump B’s supply or ground circuit.
- Clean corroded pump B connector contacts.
- Replace pump B if testing confirms a partially open motor winding.
- Repair or replace the pump assembly if its impeller has become decoupled from the motor shaft.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid stop-start use that depends on pump B, and limit driving if shifts slip, become delayed, or limp mode occurs. Low motor current may mean pump B cannot provide needed hydraulic pressure, which can impair transmission operation.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
