What it means
A general fault in the motor current measurement of the second auxiliary transmission fluid pump.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
How it works
The control system monitors current drawn by electric or auxiliary transmission fluid pump B to check how the pump motor is operating. P276D sets when the measured pump B motor current has a general fault, without specifying that it is too low or too high.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Current shunt resistor drift
- High-resistance contact in motor circuit
Symptoms
- Check engine or transmission warning light on
- Harsh, delayed, or missing shifts
- Possible limp mode (locked in one gear)
- Slipping or shuddering during gear changes
How to diagnose it
- Review freeze-frame data and compare pump B command, current, and status when the code sets.
- Inspect pump B’s electrical connector and wiring for looseness, corrosion, heat damage, or poor contact.
- Check the motor circuit for high-resistance connections and verify supply and ground paths.
- Compare measured current with the manufacturer's specification while pump B is commanded to run.
- If the circuit and pump check out, test the current-sensing circuit or shunt against the manufacturer's specification.
Common fixes
- Clean and secure a poor pump B electrical connection.
- Repair high-resistance wiring or ground connections in the pump B motor circuit.
- Replace a pump B motor that draws abnormal current and fails testing.
- Repair or replace a faulty current-sensing shunt or its circuit if confirmed by testing.
Can I keep driving?
Limit driving if the transmission slips, shifts poorly, or enters limp mode, and avoid operating conditions that rely on auxiliary pump B. An unresolved current-measurement fault can mask a pump problem and leave hydraulic support uncertain.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
