OBD-II fault code

P2759: Torque Converter Clutch Pressure Control Solenoid Control Circuit Electrical

What it means

Electrical fault in the TCC pressure control solenoid — open or shorted coil, or short to ground/battery in the harness.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light

How it works

The torque converter clutch pressure control solenoid's electrical circuit carries the signal that controls converter lockup pressure. P2759 indicates an electrical fault in that circuit, such as an open or shorted solenoid coil or a harness short to ground or battery power.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Open solenoid coil
  2. Short to ground or battery in the harness

Symptoms

  • Check engine or transmission warning light on
  • Harsh, delayed, or missing shifts
  • Possible limp mode (locked in one gear)
  • Slipping or shuddering during gear changes

How to diagnose it

  1. Save freeze-frame data and use a scan tool to check TCC command and converter slip readings for the conditions when the circuit fault occurred.
  2. Inspect the TCC solenoid connector and harness for breaks, chafing, corrosion, loose terminals or contact with power or ground.
  3. Test the solenoid coil and its connector for an open or short using the manufacturer's procedure.
  4. Check the circuit wiring for continuity and shorts to ground or battery power according to the wiring diagram.
  5. If the solenoid and wiring pass, test the controller output circuit using the manufacturer's procedure.

Common fixes

  • Reconnect or repair loose, corroded or damaged TCC solenoid terminals.
  • Repair a shorted or broken section of the TCC control harness.
  • Replace the solenoid if its coil is open or shorted.
  • Repair the controller output circuit if testing locates the electrical fault there.

Can I keep driving?

Limit driving if shifts are harsh or the converter slips or shudders, since poor lockup control can overheat the transmission fluid. Stop if the vehicle loses drive, stalls or enters limp mode.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
