What it means
The 5 V supply rail D for sensors is open. All sensors fed from this rail report invalid readings.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
How it works
Sensor Power Supply D is one of the module's regulated reference-voltage rails that feeds a group of sensors. This code sets when the module detects an open in rail D, leaving supplied sensors without their expected reference and potentially causing implausible readings or poor engine operation.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Open wire on the supply rail
- Open inside the ECU regulator output
Symptoms
- Check-engine light may be on
- One or more sensor readings may be implausible
- Rough running or reduced power may occur
How to diagnose it
- Review freeze-frame data and sensor live data to identify which readings became implausible when Sensor Power Supply D failed.
- Use vehicle wiring information to identify the sensors supplied by rail D, then inspect their connectors and the shared supply wiring for breaks or loose pins.
- Check for reference voltage at the affected sensors and along the rail to locate where the supply is lost.
- With the circuit isolated as directed by the manufacturer's procedure, test the shared rail wiring for continuity and connector faults.
- If the wiring and sensor connections are intact, check the module's regulator output for rail D against the manufacturer's specification.
Common fixes
- Reconnect loose sensor or shared-rail connectors.
- Repair an open wire in the Sensor Power Supply D rail.
- Replace damaged connector terminals that interrupt the reference supply.
- Repair or replace the module only if its rail D regulator output is confirmed faulty.
Can I keep driving?
Driving may be unreliable if rail D affects engine sensors, causing rough running or reduced power; avoid hard acceleration and stop if the engine runs badly. The fault can affect several sensors at once, so arrange diagnosis soon.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
