What it means
Voltage on the air cleaner inlet valve control line is above the expected window. Wiring faults of this kind typically come from chafing, water ingress at connector seals, or pin push-back — a wiggle test on the harness while the code is active often confirms the location.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
How it works
The controller operates the air cleaner inlet valve solenoid to switch between intake paths, including warm-air routing where fitted. P2677 sets when the control line voltage is too high, which can result from a short to battery voltage, an open solenoid coil, or a poor connector connection.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Control wire shorted to B+
- Open solenoid coil
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- Check-engine light
- Poor cold-start performance
How to diagnose it
- Read freeze-frame data and determine whether the fault is current and whether the inlet valve was being commanded.
- Inspect the inlet solenoid connector and harness for wires rubbed against a power feed, corrosion, loose terminals, or pin damage.
- Check the control wire for an unintended connection to battery voltage using the vehicle wiring information and safe circuit testing.
- Disconnect the solenoid and recheck the circuit state to determine whether the solenoid coil or the harness is driving the high reading.
- Measure solenoid and circuit behavior against the manufacturer's specification before considering a controller fault.
Common fixes
- Repair a control wire shorted to battery voltage.
- Restore a loose, corroded, or damaged connector terminal.
- Replace an air cleaner inlet solenoid with an open coil.
- Repair a controller fault only after the wiring and solenoid pass their checks.
Can I keep driving?
This fault usually affects inlet switching and cold-start performance rather than basic engine operation. Gentle driving is generally possible if the engine runs normally, but allow extra time for cold starts and repair the circuit promptly.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
