OBD-II fault code

P25EC: Supercharger Disconnect Clutch Circuit Low

What it means

Voltage on the supercharger clutch control line is below the expected window. Usually a short to ground or a shorted clutch coil.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light

How it works

The supercharger disconnect clutch control circuit carries the electrical command that operates the clutch. This low-circuit code means the module detects voltage below its expected window; a short to ground or shorted coil can cause it, but testing is needed to identify the fault.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Control wire shorted to ground
  2. Internal short in the clutch coil
  3. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance

Symptoms

  • Reduced engine performance or boost
  • Check-engine light may illuminate

How to diagnose it

  1. Review freeze-frame data and clutch command state to see when the module detected low circuit voltage.
  2. Inspect the clutch harness and connector for rubbed-through insulation, moisture, corrosion, or terminals touching ground.
  3. With power isolated as specified by the manufacturer, check the clutch coil for an internal short and compare its resistance with the manufacturer's specification.
  4. Test the control wire for a short to ground and check connector voltage and continuity using the manufacturer's circuit procedure.
  5. If the wiring and coil pass, test the module output driver for a low-voltage fault.

Common fixes

  • Repair a control wire shorted to ground.
  • Clean or replace corroded clutch connector terminals and restore a sound connection.
  • Replace a clutch coil that is internally shorted or outside specification.
  • Repair the control module driver circuit if testing confirms it is pulling the circuit low.

Can I keep driving?

Reduced supercharger output may limit acceleration; avoid hard acceleration and arrange diagnosis. Stop driving if the vehicle cannot maintain a safe speed in traffic.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
