What it means
The vacuum reservoir pressure sensor circuit signal is intermittent or erratic. The code does not identify the cause.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
How it works
The vacuum reservoir pressure sensor reports how much vacuum is stored for vacuum-assisted functions. The control module monitors the sensor circuit for a stable signal; it sets P2529 when that signal drops out or changes erratically, often as the connector or harness moves.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Loose connector
- Chafed harness
- Connector with intermittent contact under vibration
Symptoms
- Vacuum-assisted functions may work intermittently
- A related warning light may appear
How to diagnose it
- Read freeze-frame data and any related vacuum-system codes to see when the signal became erratic and whether vacuum-assisted functions were affected.
- View the reservoir pressure sensor reading on a scan tool and check whether it jumps or disappears while the engine and vacuum-assisted system operate.
- Inspect the sensor connector for looseness, damaged or corroded pins, and signs of poor contact.
- Check the harness to the vacuum reservoir pressure sensor for chafing, stretched wires, or damage near moving or hot parts.
- With the wiring diagram, monitor or test the sensor circuit while gently moving the connector and harness to find an intermittent open or short.
Common fixes
- Secure a loose vacuum reservoir pressure sensor connector.
- Repair chafed or damaged wiring in the sensor harness.
- Clean or repair connector pins with poor contact.
- Replace the vacuum reservoir pressure sensor if its signal remains intermittent with sound wiring.
Can I keep driving?
Use caution if brake assist or another vacuum-assisted function feels inconsistent, and avoid driving if braking effort changes. An intermittent signal can also make the related warning appear and disappear.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
