OBD-II fault code

P2526: Vacuum Reservoir Pressure Sensor Circuit Range/Performance

What it means

The vacuum reservoir pressure sensor signal is outside the expected range or does not behave as expected. The code alone does not identify the sensor, circuit, or vacuum-system cause.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light

How it works

The vacuum reservoir pressure sensor reports pressure in a vacuum reservoir used by a vehicle system. The control module sets P2526 when the sensor signal is outside its expected range or does not change as expected, which can reflect a vacuum leak or a sensor whose reading has drifted.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Leaking reservoir or vacuum line
  2. Aged sensor with offset drift
  3. Sensor element aged beyond calibration window

Symptoms

  • Vacuum-assisted functions may be reduced or inconsistent
  • A related warning light may appear

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and review live reservoir pressure data to see whether the signal is implausible or fails to respond as operating conditions change.
  2. Inspect the vacuum reservoir, hoses, and connections for cracks, disconnections, or other signs of leakage.
  3. Check the sensor connector and wiring for damage, corrosion, loose terminals, or a poor connection.
  4. Test the sensor supply, ground, and signal circuits against the manufacturer's specification to rule out an electrical fault.
  5. If the circuit passes, check reservoir vacuum behavior and compare sensor readings with the manufacturer's diagnostic procedure.

Common fixes

  • Reconnect a loose or disconnected vacuum hose.
  • Repair a leaking reservoir or damaged vacuum line.
  • Clean or repair corroded sensor terminals or wiring.
  • Replace the pressure sensor if its signal remains out of range after the vacuum system and circuit pass inspection.

Can I keep driving?

Drive cautiously until you know which system uses the reservoir, since a vacuum-assisted function may be reduced or inconsistent. If braking assistance or another safety-related function feels different, stop driving and have the vehicle checked.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
