OBD-II fault code

P2465: Diesel Particulate Filter Differential Pressure Too High Bank 2

What it means

The module detects differential pressure across the particulate filter above the calibrated threshold for bank 2. The reading can be caused by a restricted filter or a pressure sensor or sensing-line fault.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test

How it works

The module uses differential pressure across the bank 2 DPF to estimate exhaust restriction. P2465 sets when the reported pressure difference exceeds the calibrated threshold, which may indicate a restricted filter or a fault in the sensor or its pressure lines.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Soot/water clogged pressure tubes
  2. Sensor drift
  3. Sensor element aged beyond calibration window

Symptoms

  • Check engine light or DPF warning light on
  • Power loss / limp mode
  • Increased fuel consumption
  • Failed forced regeneration attempts

How to diagnose it

  1. Save freeze-frame data and review bank 2 differential pressure across idle and load conditions to determine when it exceeds the expected range.
  2. Inspect the bank 2 pressure sensor connector and wiring for corrosion, loose contacts, or damage.
  3. Remove and inspect the bank 2 pressure tubes for soot, water, blockage, cracks, or kinks that could trap or distort pressure.
  4. Check whether the pressure reading changes plausibly with engine speed and compare it with any available bank 1 data under similar conditions.
  5. Test the sensor signal, supply, and ground, and compare sensor output with the manufacturer's specification.
  6. If the sensor and tubes are sound, assess actual bank 2 DPF restriction and regeneration history using the manufacturer's procedure.

Common fixes

  • Clean or replace soot- or water-blocked bank 2 pressure tubes.
  • Repair the bank 2 sensor wiring or connector if damaged or corroded.
  • Replace the differential pressure sensor if its output is outside the manufacturer's specification.
  • Clean or replace the bank 2 DPF if testing confirms excessive restriction.

Can I keep driving?

Limit heavy-load driving if power is reduced or a DPF warning is present, and have the high reading checked promptly. A genuinely restricted bank 2 filter can worsen, reduce power further, and interfere with regeneration.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
