OBD-II fault code

P22F7: Cylinder 8 Alternative Fuel Injector Control Circuit High

What it means

Cylinder 8 alternative-fuel injector drive line stuck high — short to B+. A flow-deviating injector throws off cylinder balance — adjacent cylinders run leaner/richer to compensate, often masking the root cause until the trim limit is hit.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test

How it works

The engine control module switches the alternative-fuel injector for cylinder 8 through a dedicated control circuit. This code sets when the module detects that circuit staying higher than expected, which can happen if the control wire is shorted to battery voltage. The injector may then be controlled incorrectly, causing rough running or a cylinder 8 misfire.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Short to B+
  2. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
  3. Supply wire pinched against B+ source

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on
  • Misfire or rough idle on the affected cylinder
  • Increased fuel consumption
  • Possible fuel smell or smoke from exhaust

How to diagnose it

  1. Capture freeze-frame data and check for cylinder 8 misfire codes to identify the conditions when the high-circuit fault appears.
  2. Inspect the cylinder 8 alternative-fuel injector connector for corrosion, loose pins, or signs of heat damage.
  3. Follow the injector control wire and look for pinching or insulation damage against a battery-positive wire or other powered component.
  4. Using the service information, isolate the circuit and check whether the control wire is shorted to battery voltage.
  5. If no harness fault is found, test the cylinder 8 injector and its control driver using the manufacturer's procedure.

Common fixes

  • Clean or repair corroded terminals at the cylinder 8 injector connector.
  • Repair a pinched control wire that is contacting a battery-positive source.
  • Replace damaged wiring or the injector connector.
  • Replace the cylinder 8 alternative-fuel injector or repair its control driver only if testing identifies it as faulty.

Can I keep driving?

If the engine is smooth, drive only as needed and avoid heavy loads until the circuit is checked. Stop if it misfires badly or you smell fuel or see smoke, since incorrect fueling can worsen emissions-system damage.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
